Mike Leigh’s acclaimed comedy

Abigail’s Party.

PLAY READING - MONDAY NOVEMBER 22ND

WORKSHOP - THURSDAY NOVEMBER 25TH

AUDITION - MONDAY NOVEMBER 29TH

The venue for all reading and rehearsal dates is the United Reform Church Hall, Street at 7.30pm.

Travel back to the 1970’s. Beverly and her husband Laurence host a drinks party for a few neighbours in their suburban house. The guests - Angela, her husband Tony, and Sue, a divorcee whose daughter Abigail is having a rowdy party next door - are subjected to Beverly's desire to be an exemplary hostess. Swishing around in her voluminous dress, she plies them with alcohol and nibbles. The drinks flow, tensions rise and drunken dancing ensue, until the evening comes to a sudden and unexpected close.
A suburban situation comedy of manners, and a satire on the aspirations and tastes of the new middle class that emerged in Britain in the 1970s.
This is an amateur production by kind permission of Concord Theatricals and directed for Street Theatre by Sheila Martin.

in the Strode Theatre 'STUDIO'

Presented as four separate plays, 'DUETS' written by Peter Quilter and directed for Street Theatre by Samantha Elgar, is a very funny tribute to the strength and madness of the human heart. Four sets of characters, four crucial moments:
Jonathan and Wendy are on a blind date and hoping to get it right this time even though they've never got it right before; Barrie is not really interested in women but Janet sees that as no reason to stop trying; Shelley and Bobby have decided to holiday in Spain to finalise their divorce, whilst drowning in cocktails; Angela is marrying for the third time, to the dismay of her brother Toby, and amidst a barrage of bad omens and a dress resembling a parachute.
This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd on behalf of Samuel French Ltd.
Please note there is limited seating in the Studio so make sure you book early!
